The Luxembourg Empire Tiara is perhaps one of the largest tiaras in Europe.
The all-diamond tiara includes several motifs, such as scrolls. However, it is unclear where the tiara came from. The name links it to its empire style, but not any specific empire. It was made sometime in the early 19th century.
One theory of its provenance states that it was a wedding gift for Princess Pauline of Württemberg, who married Wilhelm, Duke of Nassau, in 1829. The Dukes of Nassau succeeded as rulers of Luxembourg when Queen Wilhelmina became Queen of the Netherlands.
It has usually been worn only by the reigning Grand Duchess or the Grand Duchess consort, but it has also been worn as a wedding tiara twice. Grand Duchess Charlotte wore it for her wedding to Prince Felix of Bourbon-Parma, and her younger sister, Princess Hilda, wore it to her wedding to Adolf, the 10th Prince of Schwarzenberg, in 1930.1
