The Congo Diamond Necklace Tiara belongs to the Luxembourg Grand Ducal Family, and it came into the family with Princess Joséphine-Charlotte of Belgium.
Princess Joséphine Charlotte married Hereditary Grand Duke Jean of Luxembourg in 1953 and she wore the tiara on her wedding day. The tiara was made by Van Cleef and Arpels using Congolese diamonds, as it was a gift for the Belgian Congo. Princess Joséphine-Charlotte switched things up when it came time for the wedding photo as she posed for several wearing the Belgian Scroll tiara. This was also a wedding gift.
The Congo Diamond Necklace tiara became a tradition for Luxembourg royal brides. Joséphine-Charlotte’s two daughters wore it for their weddings, and it was also the wedding tiara for Maria Teresa Mestre y Batista when she married the future Grand Duke Henri.1 As the name suggests, it can also be worn as a necklace.
