Catalina Micaela of Spain was born in 1567 as the younger surviving daughter of King Philip II of Spain and Elisabeth of Valois. In 1585, she married Charles Emmanuel I, Duke of Savoy, and they went on to have ten children over the next 11 years. She died in childbirth in 1597.
This is the first full biography of Catalina Micaela.
Infanta: The Short, Remarkable Life of Catalina Micaela by Magdalena S. Sánchez draws on extensive archival sources, including thousands of letters exchanged between husband and wife. This is very interesting to read as it uncovers a private part of their life that is normally hidden.
The book is very in-depth, which can make it a little dry at times. However, I found the book very well-written, and I learned a lot of new things. I can highly recommend this book.
Infanta: The Short, Remarkable Life of Catalina Micaela by Magdalena S. Sánchez is available in the UK and the US.
