Queen Josefina’s Diamond Tiara probably first belonged to Joséphine de Beauharnais, Empress of the French. However, its name comes from the owner we know for sure: Empress Joséphine’s granddaughter, Josephine of Leuchtenberg, Queen of Sweden and Norway.
The tiara’s maker is uncertain, but it features intricate diamond floral and laurel-wreath elements. Upon Queen Josephine’s death, the tiara went to her granddaughter, Louise of Sweden, who had married King Frederick VIII of Denmark.

Following Queen Louise’s death in 1926, the tiara was passed to her son, Prince Gustav. He remained unmarried, and following his death in 1944, the tiara was left to his niece, Princess Märtha of Sweden, Crown Princess of Norway. Crown Princess Märtha never became Queen, and after her death, her daughter, Princess Astrid, often wore the tiara.

Today, Queen Sonja often wears the tiara.1
