Princess Joséphine O’Hare de Saxe-Cobourg, Princess of Belgium, is one of the lesser-known Princesses of Belgium. She became a Princess only in 2020 after her mother won a court case.
Princess Joséphine was born on 17 October 2003 as the daughter of Delphine Boël, now known as Princess Delphine, and her partner, the Irish-American James O’Hare. Her parents had been living in London but moved to Brussels around the time of her birth. On 28 April 2008, Joséphine’s brother, Oscar, was born.

Joséphine grew up in relative anonymity while her mother fought to be recognised as the daughter of King Albert II of Belgium. She finally won her fight in 2020, when DNA proved that she was the King’s daughter. On 1 October 2020, she also won the right to carry his last name. She then became known as “Delphine of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, Princess of Belgium”, and her two children were also recognised as Prince and Princess of Belgium with the HRH.1 The only difference is that Delphine and her children are not in the line of succession.

Joséphine attended Notre-Dame des Champs School in Uccle and is currently studying Liberal Arts and Sciences at Leiden University. She reportedly inherited her mother’s love for the arts and is also a photographer.

She does not undertake royal duties but does sometimes appear at family events, such as the wedding of her cousin, Princess Maria Laura.
