Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, Queen of the United Kingdom, has made something of a comeback recently with representations in Bridgerton and her own spin-off series, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. Queen Charlotte was the wife of King George III of the United Kingdom, and she had 15 children with him, of whom 13 would survive to adulthood. She had to navigate the King’s illness while serving as Queen. She was dedicated to her own family but also to the family she left behind in Mecklenburg-Strelitz.

This is the 9th book in the  Lives of Royal Women series from Routledge, and it comes at a good time. Queen Charlotte: Family, Duty, Scandal by Natalee Garrett is a highly readable and interesting look at Queen Charlotte. I thoroughly enjoyed the look at her life before she became Queen, which is an often overlooked part of any Queen’s life. Overall, Charlotte deserves her spot in this series, and this book does her justice.

Queen Charlotte: Family, Duty, Scandal by Natalee Garrett is available now in the US and the UK.
