Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad Al Thani was born on 7 December 1984 in Doha as the daughter of former government minister Sheikh Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani and Hessa bint Ahmad Al Thani. She is a member of the Qatari royal family by birth and marriage. Her father was a nephew of Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar. She has at least four sisters. Her name, or Jawahir, means “jewels.”

On 8 January 2005, she married her second cousin, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who was then the heir apparent to his father, the Emir of Qatar. They were married at Al-Wajbah Palace in Doha.

Jawaher and Tamim had four children together: Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani (born 15 January 2006), Sheikh Hamad bin Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani (born 20 October 2008), Sheikha Aisha bint Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani (born 24 August 2010) and Sheikh Jassim bin Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani (born 12 June 2012).

Four years after their wedding, Tamim married a second wife, Sheikha Al-Anoud bint Mana Al Hajri. He and Al-Anoud had five children together: Sheikha Naylah bint Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani (born 27 May 2010), Sheikh Abdullah bin Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani (born 29 September 2012)
Sheikha Rodha bint Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani (born January 2014), Sheikh Alqaqa’a bin Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani (born 3 October 2015) and Sheikha Moza bint Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani (born 19 May 2018).

In 2014, Tamim married his third wife, Sheikha Noora bint Hathal Al Dosari. He and Noora went on to have four children together, Sheikh Joa’an bin Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani (born 27 March 2015), Sheikh Mohammed bin Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani (born 17 July 2017), Sheikh Fahad bin Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani (born 16 June 2018) and Sheikha Hind bint Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani (born 5 February 2020).

On 25 June 2013, Tamim’s father abdicated in his favour, and Tamim became the Emir of Qatar. Jawaher is thus one of the three consorts of the Emir of Qatar.

In 2021, she earned a Master’s degree in Business Administration and Management from Qatar University. In her speech, she said about her husband, “After God, His Highness credits me in my scientific and practical life as a wife and mother. Thank you, Tamim bin Hamad.”1

Shortly after earning her Master’s degree, Jawaher joined her husband during a state visit to Spain. It was her first since her husband succeeded as Emir of Qatar in 2013. She was presented with the Royal Order of Isabella the Catholic by King Felipe VI. That same year, she accompanied her husband to the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

In 2023, they attended the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

In 2024, she joined her husband for an official visit to the Netherland and a state visit to the United Kingdom.

Jawaher and Tamim welcomed Donald Trump to Lusail Palace in May 2025.

There is no defined role for the consort of the Emir of Qatar, but Jawaher has shown her support for women’s sports, and a women’s soccer tournament bears her name.
