About Lauralee Swann
I am a former elementary teacher in Tennessee. I have a bachelor’s degree in Liberal and Civic Studies from St. Mary’s College of California, a master’s in Elementary Education from the University of Phoenix, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the College of Saint Mary. Because my family are from East Asia, I have a passion for historical Chinese and Korean television shows. I always wanted to separate fact from fiction in dramas. Writing articles from History of Royal Women gives me a chance to dig deeper and explore these royal women as they might have been in real life. Also, it gives me a chance to look at the history and culture of where my family originated. I love researching East Asian royalty because they rarely get enough attention in the West often being overshadowed by European royalty. I find these royal women to be just as fascinating and their stories deserve to be told. Thus, I am excited to write for History of Royal Women!

Queen Jang Hui-Bin – The Korean Femme Fatale

Sunday, 12 November 2017, 0:00 Lauralee Swann 5

Queen Jang Hui-bin’s reputation has often been negative. According to historian Hwang, her story has some similarities to Anne Boleyn.[1] Throughout history, she has been labelled as a “stubborn, licentious, decadent, femme fatale.”[2] She is said to have seduced King Sukjong and made him divorce his queen, Inhyeon, and make her queen in her place. She was [read more]

Dagmar of Denmark – Her life as Empress (Part two)

Wednesday, 8 November 2017, 7:00 Lauralee Swann 2

In my previous article, I have discussed the early years of Empress Maria Feodorovna. Now, this article will focus on her years as Empress. The death of  Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna marked the end of the age of Imperial Russia. She had lived fifty years of her life in Russia and had gained the love [read more]

Dagmar of Denmark – Her life as a Princess (Part one)

The Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna’s life was often marked by tragedy. She was from a junior branch of Denmark royalty, who suddenly found herself as a daughter of the king. Three of her siblings became kings and queens. While she had a few suitors that vied for her hand, Maria Feodorovna’s most illustrious suitor was [read more]

Ilona Szilágyi – Vlad the Impaler’s wife

Saturday, 14 October 2017, 7:00 Lauralee Swann 13

Ilona Szilágyi has largely been overshadowed by her illustrious husband Vlad the Impaler. So much attention has been focused on Vlad that we hardly know much about Ilona. We don’t know much about her life or even how she died. Ilona was the daughter of a nobleman. Her cousin was King Matthias Corvinus, the king [read more]

Queen Dangyeong – The seven day Queen

Thursday, 12 October 2017, 7:00 Lauralee Swann 13

Queen Dangyeong’s story is very tragic. She was the first wife of King Jungjong of Joseon (Korea). Because of a power struggle, she experienced the death of her father and her own deposition. It was even sadder that she was only queen for seven days. She was torn from her husband and forced to live [read more]

Sunday, 8 October 2017, 0:00 Lauralee Swann 1

Kosem Sultan was one of the most powerful women in the Ottoman Empire. She governed the empire for nearly 30 years. She lived through six reigns of the Ottoman Empire and became regent for two of her sons and grandson. Throughout her role as regent, she gained immense popularity and respect among her subjects.
