Recent DNA testing has confirmed that the remains of Nicholas II and his family members are genuine, a spokesman has confirmed. Samples were taken from the lower jaw and a neckbone. The samples also matched the data obtained earlier from Nicholas II’s shirt, which had traces of his blood.

The samples also exhibited heteroplasmy, a rare genetic mutation found in the earlier samples of Nicholas II.

However, the examinations will go on with the research of additional genetic systems. Comparisons will also be made with the remains of Emperor Alexander II. A blood sample has been taken from clothing that the emperor was wearing at the time of his assassination. The clothing has been held in the State Hermitage Museum.
