The majority of the members of the church commission dealing with the so-called “Yekaterinburg remains”, or the remains of the last Tsarist family, are convinced that the executed of the family was a ritual murder, according to Bishop Tikhon.

“We take the ritual murder theory most seriously. The significant part of the commission has no doubts that this murder was a ritual one,” he said at a conference on ‘the Yekaterinburg remains’ in Moscow on Monday. “This should be substantiated and proven,” he added.

The theory is supported by Yakov Yurovsky, the chief executioner, who said that prior to the execution all the members of the family were assigned to their killers. However, the majority of the bullets still hit the Tsar as “everybody wanted to be the regicide” and “it was a special ritual for many”, Bishop Tikhon said. Some of the family survived the initial shooting and were later killed by bayonets.

  1. For crying out loud. They were murdered because they were royals, not for their religious beliefs. Did the Church of England have any say in the investigation surrounding Princess Diana’s death?
