Celebrating the 200th wedding anniversary of Maria Antonia Koháry de Csábrág and Ferdinand of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha

On the occasion of the 200th wedding anniversary of Maria Antonia Koháry de Csábrág and Ferdinand of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, a painting of Ferdinand II of Portugal was offered to the Svaty Anton museum in Slovakia. The Svaty Anton museum is the former seat of the Princes of Kohary, and it was also the home in exile of King Ferdinand of Bulgaria. The presentation of the painting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Lisbon.

Ferdinand and Maria Antonia married in Vienna on 30 November 1815 and they had four children through which they are the ancestors of Pedro V of Portugal, Charles I of Austria, Otto von Habsburg, Michael I of Romania, Peter II of Yugoslavia,Ferdinand I of Bulgaria, Boris III of Bulgaria, Simeon II of Bulgaria, Henri, Count of Paris, Prince Boris of Leiningen and Prince Hermann Friedrich of Leiningen,Pedro de Alcântara, Prince of Grão-Pará, among others. Their son was the Ferdinand II from the painting.

Maria Antonia was a Hungarian noblewoman who was the sole heir to the fortune of the House of Koháry, and Prince Ferdinand was the elder brother of Prince Leopold, future King of the Belgians and Victoria, the future Duchess of Kent and mother of Queen Victoria.
