Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (public domain)

The Mirow Fürstengruft houses many coffins belonging to deceased members of the Princely family of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. During the restorations of the coffins, DNA samples were taken to positively identify them.

Three new people were identified, these include the two daughters of Adolphus Frederick III, Duke of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. His eldest daughter Marie Sofia died at the age of 18, while his youngest daughter Madalena Cristina died at the age of just two. The third to be identified is Princess Christiane Emilie of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen who was the grandmother of Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, consort of King George III.

The restoration of the Fürstengruft and its research is not yet completed.
