Helen of Greece and Denmark, or the Queen Mother of Romania is to be reburied in Romania, Prince Radu (husband of Crown Princess Margareta), has said. Helen was born in 1896 as the daughter of King Constantine I of Greece and his wife Queen Sophia of Prussia. She married Prince Carol of Romania (later Carol II of Romania) in 1921, and they had a single son, the future King Michael I of Romania, before divorcing in 1928. She was first given the title “The Princess Mother of Romania” in 1926 and “The Queen Mother of Romania” in 1940.

She died in 1982 in exile in Switzerland and could not be buried in Romania at the time. She is currently buried at the Cemetery of Bois-de-Vaux in Lausanne, Switzerland. The newly renovated Curtea de Arges Cathedral, which recently saw the burial of her daughter-in-law, Queen Anne of Romania, now has room for more burials. The cathedral should be completely done in October. There are also plans to move the remains of her husband, which currently rest in a small church on the same site as the cathedral.

No date has been set yet.
