Anne Boleyn and Hever Castle

As my fascination with royal women began with Anne Boleyn, visiting her childhood home Hever Castle was only a matter of time. So, back in 2011, I found an excursion trip with OAD (now bankrupt, unfortunately!) that also included Hever Castle.

I’ve included the pictures my friend and I took. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to take photographs inside. I would have loved to have taken a picture of Anne’s Book of Hours that is on display inside.

After the Boleyn family, the castle was given to Henry VIII’s fourth wife, Anne of Cleves. After her, it belonged to many different families before being bought by the Astors, who did a lot of restoration work on the castle. Right now, it is owned by the Guthrie family.

I have removed my friend from the picture! 🙂 This picture was taken by our bus driver Nas. He was awesome!

Around Hever Castle itself, there is a vast garden and even a lake. As we arrived before the castle opened, we walked around the gardens a bit. Of course, most of this was not there in Anne Boleyn’s time, but it is still a lovely garden.

I’m really glad Hever Castle was included in this trip. It’s a beautiful castle, and of course, walking in Anne’s footsteps is amazing.
