Anne Boleyn spent a year in Mechelen at the court of Margaret of Austria, who was the Governor of the Habsburg Netherlands. This was during the year 1514. Mechelen is now in modern-day Belgium and is not that far from the border, so I decided to visit it to find the Palace of Margaret of Austria!

The Palace still exists today and is in use as a court. Because of this, it was not possible to go inside. However, the inner garden is open to the public.

The outside of the Palace is gorgeous. I love the white brick.

Near the Palace is the St. Rumbold’s Cathedral. Just in front of the cathedral is a statue of Margaret of Austria. It’s huge and very pretty!

Across the street from the Palace of Margaret of Austria is the Palace, or what remains of it, of Margaret of York. Apparently, only the reception hall remains.
